The Aleksandar Spasov Memorial Award was created to benefit first generation students enrolled in an undergraduate program within the Lassonde School of Engineering. Aleksandar Spasov immigrated to Canada from former Yugoslavia with his family when he was a teenager. He overcame poverty through hard work, determination, and ingenuity. Aleksandar founded a mechanical insulation business and developed an industry leading product and application technique. He believed strongly that education plays a critical role in transforming people's lives. Aleksandar gave generously to help support his family, community, and those in need. To be eligible, students must be the first member of their family to pursue post-secondary education and must demonstrate leadership and community service at Lassonde or within the wider community which relates to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
First generation students enrolled in an undergraduate program within the Lassonde School of Engineering program may apply for this award.
Applicants will be asked to complete an online application.
To be eligible:
1) Student must be the first member of their immediate family (Parents have not attended College or University in or outside Canada) to pursue post-secondary education;
2) Applicants will be required to submit a one-page statement outlining their leadership and community service at Lassonde or within the wider community which relates to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (For more information about the UN goals go to: https://sdgs.un.org/goals).
