The J.P. Hill Memorial Award for Indigenous Students in STEM will be awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled in any year of study within the Lassonde School of Engineering with a preference for second-year students. Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 6.0, self identify as First Nation, Metis or Inuit , and submit a short essay, in 500 words or less, demonstrating a history of community leadership, centered on improving and strengthening their home communities. The J.P. Hill Memorial Award for Indigenous Students in STEM, honours the legacy of John Peter Hill, the grandfather of Starrlee DeGrace, proud Indigenous woman and member of the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation. J.P. encouraged his granddaughter to chase her dreams, to pursue post-secondary education and to not put limits on her potential based on current circumstances, which is the purpose of the J.P. Hill Memorial Award.
